Alloy Steel Socket Shoulder Screws
Hexagon socket head shoulder screws with a precision-ground shoulder — used as pivots, guides, axles and stripper bolts in press tools, jigs, fixtures and machinery.
About our socket shoulder screws range
A socket shoulder screw has three parts: a socket (allen) head, a smooth precision-ground shoulder, and a shorter threaded section of smaller diameter. The shoulder acts as an accurate pin or axle for parts that rotate or slide, while the thread clamps the screw into place. That makes shoulder screws the standard choice for pivot points, linkages, guide pins, cam followers, pulleys and the stripper plates in press tools and dies.
We stock alloy steel hexagon socket head shoulder screws to DIN 7379 in grade 12.9, from 6 mm shoulder (M5 thread) up to 24 mm shoulder (M20 thread), with shoulder lengths from 8 mm to 150 mm. Sizes are specified as shoulder diameter × thread × shoulder length — for example 10 × M8 × 30 or 16 × M12 × 50.
Common sizes we supply: 6 × M5, 8 × M6, 10 × M8, 12 × M10, 16 × M12, 20 × M16 and 24 × M20 series — for example 8 × M6 × 20, 10 × M8 × 30, 12 × M10 × 40, 16 × M12 × 50 and 20 × M16 × 60 — in grade 12.9.
Also known in the trade as: Shoulder bolt, Shoulder screw, Stripper bolt, Allen shoulder bolt, Socket head shoulder bolt, Precision shoulder screw, Pivot bolt.

Common questions
What is a shoulder screw used for?
Shoulder screws are used as pivots, axles, guide pins and stripper bolts. The smooth shoulder lets a part rotate or slide on it, while the thread holds the screw in place — common in press tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, linkages and conveyor equipment.
How do I order a shoulder screw size?
Give the shoulder diameter, thread and shoulder length — for example 10 × M8 × 30 means a 10 mm shoulder, M8 thread and 30 mm shoulder length (measured from under the head to the start of the thread).
Is a shoulder bolt the same as a stripper bolt?
Yes. In press tools and dies, socket shoulder screws are commonly called stripper bolts because they guide and retain the stripper plate.
