How to Identify Genuine TVS/Sundaram Fasteners Bolts
Duplicate “TVS” bolts are common in the market, and a low-grade bolt sold as 10.9 or 12.9 can fail under load. Here are the five checks we use every day at our counter, illustrated with real boxes from our own stock.
1. Check the marking on the bolt head
Genuine TVS high-tensile bolts carry the TVS mark and the property class (for example 8.8, 10.9 or 12.9) forged into the head. On the M24 hex bolt below you can clearly read “TVS” and “10.9” on top of the head. A plain head, a blurred or uneven mark, or a grade with no maker's mark is a warning sign.

2. Read the box label carefully
Every genuine box carries a printed label from Sundram Fasteners Limited with the registered office in Chennai and the plant where it was made. Check that the label shows all of these:
- Size and grade in words, e.g. “M20 x 2.5 x 100 Soc Bolt – 12.9” or “M6 x 1 x 25 Csk Screw – 12.9”.
- Part number — a long numeric code such as 416207100-0500. The diameter and length usually appear inside it (for example …20…100 for an M20 × 100).
- Quantity in the box, MRP and rate per unit.
- Month and year of packing.
- A traceability number (heat number or Tc. Id) and, on newer boxes, a QR code.
- Certification line (IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) and Sundram's customer care contact.
A photocopied, handwritten or missing label — or a box where the label size doesn't match the screws inside — should not be accepted.

3. Match the label to what's inside
Open the box and check a few pieces: measure the diameter and length, count the thread pitch if needed, and confirm the head marking matches the grade on the label. Genuine boxes are packed in standard quantities (for example 10, 100 or 200 pieces depending on size), so a loose, odd-count box is worth questioning.
4. Be careful with prices that are far below MRP
Stockists do give trade discounts, but a “TVS 12.9” bolt offered at a fraction of the printed MRP is a red flag. Ask for a GST invoice that names the make (TVS / Sundram Fasteners), size and grade — a seller of genuine stock will always provide one.
5. Buy from an authorized stockist — or verify with Sundram
The simplest protection is to buy from an authorized TVS stockist. If you are unsure about a box you already have, the customer-care phone number and email printed on every genuine label let you check the part number and traceability code directly with Sundram Fasteners.

Common questions
Is TVS the same as Sundram Fasteners?
Yes. TVS fasteners are manufactured by Sundram Fasteners Limited, Chennai, part of the TVS group. Genuine boxes are labelled “Sundram Fasteners Limited” with the TVS logo.
What does 10.9 or 12.9 on a bolt head mean?
It is the property class (strength grade). 10.9 means a nominal tensile strength of about 1000 MPa with yield at 90% of that; 12.9 is about 1200 MPa. See our guide to bolt grades for details.
